The Hosokawa Alpine Aeroplex AS spiral jet mill is a simple jet mill without dynamic classifier (different to our Hosokawa Alpine AFG) that allows the ultrafine micronization with a final fineness of around 10 to 150µm of different products. Mainly dry non abrasive materials up to 3 Mohs hardness can be pulverized although some models allow wear protection inserts within the grinding chamber (pending availability). The micronizer design without rotating parts (thus no bearings or grease) makes this mill especially suitable for pharmaceutical and food applications, although it´s used as well on the chemicals industry for instance.
The comminution takes place inside the grinding chamber where the product is accelerated by the compress gas injected through the grinding nozzles causing the different particles to collide with each other and break reducing their size. Once they are fine enough they are attracted to the central outlet, acting as a sort of static classifier but without a precise sharp top cut in comparison to the AFG (which is fitted with a rotating classifier wheel). Once the comminuted particles make it through, they exit the system either to a cyclone or directly to an air filter. Thanks to the required process air volume, reduced temperature increase during grinding is to be expected compared to other granulation and crushing technologies. Adjusting the final particle size distribution can be easily done by changing different parameters, such as the gas pressure on the grinding nozzles or the feed injector, air volume, feeding rate, etc.
