M+M turbines are typically custom-made industrial steam turbines used for combined heat and power (CHP) or for energy recovery from process steam.
Due to the moderate inlet pressure and the relatively high outlet pressure, this is a back pressure steam turbine. It was designed for process steam systems to ensure efficient energy recovery and heat supply.
The turbine was used in a paper mill to increase efficiency.
With an output of 7.2 MW, this turbine is considered a medium-sized system in industrial applications.
Thanks to the pressure ratios and the use of the turbine's exhaust steam, very little energy is lost.
The estimated steam flow rate is 30 to 40 t/h.
This enabled the paper mill to achieve an efficiency of 60% to 75%.
The efficiency in CHP operation was approximately 75% to 85%.
The turbine was designed for operation for 8,760 hours (full load year) with a maximum steam flow rate of 114 t/h.
The turbine-generator unit supplies the paper machine with electricity at the 6 kV level. The process steam required for production is provided in two pressure stages.
As the steam flows through the turbine, the steam pressure is reduced from 20 bar to 4.2 bar.
If the turbine needs to be shut down for any reason, the process steam supply is provided via four pressure reducing stations connected in parallel.
