Plunge rollers: The thread rolling tools with the same pitch as the workpiece form the thread by penetrating the workpiece up to the nominal diameter. The thread length is a maximum as long as the rolling tools are wide.

Through-rolling tools: If the thread length is greater than the rolling tool width. Through-rolling tools have 3 sections - the inlet, the calibrating section, and the outlet. Grooved rollers have no pitch and are swiveled with the helix angle of the profile to be rolled.

Helix rollers differ from grooved rollers by having a pitch in the profile. The sum of the helix angle and the swivel angle results in the helix angle in the workpiece.
