Plunge Rolling: The thread rolling tools, having the same pitch as the workpiece, form the thread by penetrating the workpiece up to the nominal diameter. The maximum thread length is limited to the width of the rolling dies.

Through-feed Rolling: Used when the thread length is greater than the width of the rolling dies. Through-feed tools are divided into three sections – entry, calibration, and exit.

Knurling rolls have no pitch and are swiveled at the lead angle corresponding to that of the profile to be rolled.

Lead angle rolls differ from knurling rolls by having a pitch in the profile. The sum of the lead angle and swivel angle results in the effective lead angle in the workpiece.
